Frequently Asked Questions
At DSOD we do our best to provide clear information and easy instructions for our dance family. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns!
Dance Attire
Proper dance attire ideally includes a leotard and tights but other form-fitting and flexible clothing such as tank tops, leggings, or exercise clothing is acceptable. We discourage wearing loose, baggy clothing as it is important for teachers to see if the dancer has proper hip alignment and to correct posture when needed. Wearing form-fitting apparel also reveals the beautiful lines of the human figure and the complexity of the techniques.
Hair should be pulled back from the face in a bun or ponytail.
Dancers should purchase footwear appropriate to the class they are taking: ballet slippers, tap shoes, jazz shoes, hip hop shoes, or pointe shoes. Any color shoe is usually acceptable (tan, black, pink) however, a particular color may be required later in the year to match costumes for the recital.
Shoes and clothing do not have to be brand new. We encourage you to try consignment stores as well as look through the donation box we have in the studio lobby. Our community of dancers will often donate their shoes, clothing and other dance apparel items which are free for any DSOD student to take and use.
